Définition intuitive

Un espace affine est une structure algébrique commode pour faire de la géométrie euclidienne.

Définition formelle

Un espace affine (E,E,+,)(\mathcal{E} , E, +, \to) est la donnée de

  • Un ensemble non-vide E\mathcal{E}
  • Un espace vectoriel EE
  • Une application +:E×EE+ : \mathcal{E} \times E \to \mathcal{E}
  • Une application  :E2E\to \ : \mathcal{E}^{2} \to E

qui respectent les trois propriétés suivantes :
Pour tous P,Q,REP,Q,R \in \mathcal{E} et vEv \in E,
(i) P+PQ=QP + \overrightarrow{PQ} = Q
(ii) P(P+v)=v\overrightarrow{P(P+v)} = v
(iii) PQ+QR=PR\overrightarrow{PQ} + \overrightarrow{QR} = \overrightarrow{PR}.

Exemples
  • L’espace affine usuel An=(Rn,Rn,+,)\mathbb{A}^{n} = (\R^{n}, \R^{n}, +, \to) avec ++ défini par l’addition composante par composante du point et du vecteur ; et \to la différence composante par composante du deuxième au premier point.
