An [[Algebraic set|algebraic set]] $X$ is reducible if it can be written as a union
$$X=A\cup B$$
where $A$ and $B$ are proper algebraic subsets of $X$.

##### Remarks
- If such a decomposition is impossible, $X$ is said to be irreducible.
