##### Définition intuitive
##### Définition
Soit $\mathbb K$ un corps. Un polynôme non nul
\[ P(X)=a_0+a_1X+\cdots+a_nX^n \]
est de degré $n$ lorsque
\[ a_n\neq 0 \]
et
\[ a_k=0 \qquad \text{pour tout } k>n. \]
Le coefficient $a_n$ est appelé le **coefficient dominant** de $P$.

##### Notation
On note alors
\[ \deg(P)=n. \]
Par convention,
\[ \deg(0)=-\infty. \]

##### Remarques
- Un polynôme est constant si et seulement si
\[ \deg(P)\leq 0. \]

- Un polynôme non nul est constant si et seulement si
\[ \deg(P)=0. \]

##### Propriétés
Soient $P,Q\in\mathbb K[X]$.
1) $\deg(PQ)=\deg(P)+\deg(Q),$
2) $\deg(P+Q) \leq \max(\deg(P),\deg(Q)),$
3) Si $\deg(P)\neq\deg(Q),$ alors
\[ \deg(P+Q) = \max(\deg(P),\deg(Q)). \]
