Il y a deux possibilités :

(i)(i) soit HH est fermé ;
(ii)(ii) soit HH n’est pas fermé.

Si HH n’est pas fermé, il existe une suite (xn)n(x_{n})_{n} de points de HH qui converge vers un point xEHx \in E \setminus H. Comme HH est un hyperplan, on a x0x \neq 0 et HxR=EH \oplus x\mathbb{R} = E. Ainsi, si yEy \in E, y=h+λxy = h + \lambda xhHh \in H et λR\lambda \in \mathbb{R}. Ainsi,

                                                                    y=h+λx=limnh+λxn~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~y = h + \lambda x = \underset{n \rightarrow \infty}{\mathrm{lim}}h+\lambda x_{n},

ce qui montre que yHy \in \overline{H}. Ainsi H=E\overline{H} = E.
