Théorème de la bijection

Soit II un intervalle de R\mathbb{R} et f:I→Rf:I\to\mathbb{R}. On suppose que ff est continue et strictement monotone sur II.
Alors f(I)f(I) est un intervalle et ff réalise une bijection de II sur f(I)f(I).

Remarques
  • Dans le cas où ff est strictement croissante, on a :
  1. Si I=[a,b]I=[a,b], alors
    f(I)=[f(a),f(b)] ,f(I)=[f(a),f(b)] \, ,
  2. Si I=]a,b]I=]a,b], alors
    f(I)=]lim⁡x→a+f(x), f(b)] ,f(I)=] \lim_{x\to a^+} f(x),\,f(b)] \, ,
  3. Si I=[a,b[I=[a,b[, alors
    f(I)=[f(a), lim⁡x→b−f(x)[ ,f(I)=[f(a),\,\lim_{x\to b^-}f(x)[ \, ,
  4. Si I=]a,b[I=]a,b[, alors
    f(I)=]lim⁡x→a+f(x), lim⁡x→b−f(x)[.f(I)=]\lim_{x\to a^+}f(x),\,\lim_{x\to b^-}f(x)[.
  • Dans le cas où ff est strictement décroissante, les bornes de f(I)f(I) sont inversées. Par exemple, si I=[a,b]I=[a,b], alors
    f(I)=[f(b),f(a)].f(I)=[f(b),f(a)].
