Supposons maintenant f(x0)0f(x_{0})\neq0.
(ab(f(x))ndx)1n(ab1ndx)1n=(ba)1n.\Big( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx \Big)^{\frac{1}{n}} \leqslant \Big( \int_{a}^{b} 1^n \,dx \Big)^{\frac{1}{n}} = (b-a)^{\frac{1}{n}}.En passant à la lim sup\limsup quand n+n \rightarrow +\infty, il vient alors : lim supn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n1\limsup\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} \leqslant 1.
(ab(f(x))ndx)1n(ab(11k)n1xx0<ϵk(x)dx)1n(11k)(ϵk)1n.\Big( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx \Big)^{\frac{1}{n}} \geqslant \Big( \int_{a}^{b} \Big(1-\frac{1}{k}\Big)^n \cdot \textbf{1}_{|x-x_{0}|<\epsilon_{k}}(x) \,dx \Big)^{\frac{1}{n}} \geqslant \Big(1-\frac{1}{k}\Big)\cdot (\epsilon_{k})^{\frac{1}{n}} .En passant à la lim inf\liminf quand n+n \rightarrow +\infty, il vient alors : lim infn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n11k\liminf\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} \geqslant 1-\frac{1}{k}. Cette dernière inégalité étant valable pour tout entier k2k \geqslant 2, on obtient finalement lim infn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n1\liminf\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} \geqslant 1.
On a ainsi montré 1lim infn(ab(f(x))ndx)1nlim supn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n11 \leqslant \liminf\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} \leqslant \limsup\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} \leqslant 1, d’où le fait que ((ab(f(x))ndx)1n)nN(( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}})_{n\in \mathbb{N}^{*}} converge avec limn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n=1\lim\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} = 1.

De manière générale, on a par conséquent limn(ab(f(x))ndx)1n=maxx[a,b]f(x)\lim\limits_{n \rightarrow \infty} ( \int_{a}^{b} (f(x))^n \,dx )^{\frac{1}{n}} = \max\limits_{x \in [a,b]} f(x).
