Notons 0n0_{n} cette matrice nulle. Si elle était inversible, elle admettrait une matrice inverse, disons (0n)1(0_{n})^{-1}, telle que :
0n×(0n)1=In.0_{n}\times (0_{n})^{-1}=I_{n}.Or, n’importe quelle matrice multipliée par la matrice nulle donne la matrice nulle.
On aurait donc :
0n=In0_{n}=I_{n}ce qui est faux puisque l’identité n’est pas la matrice nulle, ayant des coefficients non nuls.
