The discrete topology on a set XX is the topology such that the open sets are the subsets of XX, hence τ:=P(X)\tau:=\mathcal{P}(X).

Remarks
  • In particular, all singletons {x}\{x\} are both open and closed since {x}X\{x\}\subset X and {x}\{x\} is the complement of X\{x}XX\backslash\{x\}\subset X.
