Définition formelle :

Soit K\mathbb{K} un corps et EE un K\mathbb{K}-ev.

  • Cas finie :
    Soit nNn\in\mathbb{N} et (ei)1in(e_i)_{1\le i\le n} une famille de vecteurs de EE.
    On dit que cette famille est libre lorsque :

(λ1,,λn)Kn,i=1nλiei=0  λ1==λn=0.\forall (\lambda_1,\dots,\lambda_n)\in \mathbb{K}^n,\quad \sum_{i=1}^n \lambda_i e_i = 0 \; \Rightarrow \lambda_1 = \cdots = \lambda_n = 0.

  • Cas infinie :
    Lorsque la famille (ei)iI(e_i)_{i\in I} est infinie, on dit qu’elle est libre si et seulement si
    toute sous-famille finie est libre.

  • Dans R3\mathbb{R}^3, on considère la famille de vecteurs

    x1=(110),x2=(101),x3=(011).x_1 = \begin{pmatrix} 1 \\ 1 \\ 0 \end{pmatrix},\qquad x_2 = \begin{pmatrix} 1 \\ 0 \\ 1 \end{pmatrix},\qquad x_3 = \begin{pmatrix} 0 \\ 1 \\ 1 \end{pmatrix}.Montrer que (e1,e2,e3)(e_1,e_2,e_3) est libre.
