Soit GG un groupe fini tel que G2|G|\geq 2.

  1. Montrer que pour tout caractère χ\chi non trivial on a :
    gGχ(g)=0\sum_{{g\in G}}\chi(g)=0
  2. Montrer que toute famille finie de caractères est libre.

  1. On se donne un dit caractère χ\chi. Alors comme GG est un groupe fini, il en est de même pour χ(G)\chi(G). De plus si l’on note n=χ(G)n=|\chi(G)|, alors on a pour tout gGg\in G :
    χ(g)n=χ(gn)=1\chi(g)^{n}=\chi(g^{n})=1Donc χ(G)Un\chi(G)\subset \mathbb{U}_{n} et par égalité des cardinal χ(G)=Un\chi(G)=\mathbb{U}_{n}. Donc on a bien l’égalité :
    gGχ(g)=xUnx=0\sum_{g\in G}\chi(g)=\sum_{x\in\mathbb{U_{n}}}x=0
  2. Pour la seconde partie du problème on introduit :
    <χ1,χ2>=gGχ1(g)χ2(g)<\chi_{1},\chi_{2}>=\sum_{g\in G}\chi_{1}(g)\overline{\chi_{2}}(g)Si χ1\chi_{1} et χ2\chi_{2} sont deux caractères différents, alors χ1χ2:gχ1(g)χ2(g)\chi_{1}\overline{\chi_{2}}: g\longmapsto \chi_{1}(g)\overline{\chi_{2}(g)} est un caractère de GG et donc :
    <χ1,χ2>=0<\chi_{1},\chi_{2}>=0Soit alors une famille de caractères (χ1,,χn)(\chi_{1},\dots,\chi_{n}) on suppose qu’il existe (λ1,,λn)Cn(\lambda_{1},\dots,\lambda_{n})\in \mathbb{C}^{n} tels que :
    i=1nλiχi=0\sum_{i=1}^{n}\lambda_{i}\chi_{i}=0Alors on a pour
    1jn1\leq j\leq n :
    <χj,i=1nλiχi>=i=1nλi<χj,χi>=λj<χj,χj>=0<\chi_{j},\sum_{i=1}^{n}\lambda_{i}\chi_{i}>=\sum_{i=1}^{n}\lambda_{i}<\chi_{j},\chi_{i}>=\lambda_{j}<\chi_{j},\chi_{j}>=0donc, λj=0\lambda_{j}=0 d’où la liberté d’une telle famille.
