Nous savons que PP est un polynôme de degré 2 admettant pour racines aa et bb, deux nombres complexes. PP peut alors s’écrire sous la forme

P=c(Xa)(Xb),P = c(X-a)(X-b),

avec cc le coefficient dominant de PP. En développant cette expression, on obtient ainsi

P=cX2c(a+b)X+cab.P = cX^2-c(a+b)X+cab.

On peut alors dériver PP pour obtenir

P=2cXc(a+b).P' = 2cX-c(a+b).

On trouve donc que PP' admet pour unique racine

a+b2.\frac{a+b}{2}.
