Pour une matrice A∈Mm,n(C)A \in \mathcal{M}_{m,n}(\C), on note A∗A^{*} la matrice adjointe de AA définie par A∗=AˉTA^{*} = \bar{A}^{T} (on conjugue tous les coefficients et on transpose). On appelle l’opération ∗* la transconjuguée.

En une phrase : On inverse les lignes et colonnes de AA et on conjugue, puis on réinverse les lignes et les colonnes de la transposée et on reconjugue, on retombe sur nos pattes.

La transposée et la conjugaison complexe sont deux involutions donc la transconjugaison est aussi une involution.
