Si on commence par la division, on obtient :
30÷5×6=6×6=36.30÷5\times 6=6\times 6=36.

Si on commence par la multiplication, on obtient :
30÷5×6=30÷30=130÷5\times 6=30÷30=1Alors, comment choisir l’ordre des opérations ?

La convention habituelle est que, pour la multiplication et la division, qui ont même priorité, on commence d’abord par la gauche, ici, on commence donc par la division. C’est la première réponse, 36, qui est la bonne.

Cependant, cet exemple illustre que l’on préfère mettre des parenthèses lorsqu’une ambiguité est possible. Ainsi, on préférera écrire
(30÷5)×6.(30÷5)\times 6.
