Définition intuitive

On considère que K=R\mathbb{K} = \R (ou C\C).
Soit A⊂KA \subset \mathbb{K}.

On note ∥fn−f∥∞,A=sup⁡x∈A∣fn(x)−f(x)∣.\|f_n-f\|_{\infty,A} = \sup_{x\in A} |f_n(x)-f(x)|.
La suite (fn)(f_n) converge uniformément vers ff sur AA, si et seulement si,lim⁡n→+∞∥fn−f)∥∞,A=0\lim\limits_{n \to +\infty} \|f_{n} - f)\|_{\infty,A} = 0.

Définition formelle

∀ε>0,  ∃N∈N,  ∀n≥N,  ∀x∈A,∣fn(x)−f(x)∣≤ε.\forall \varepsilon>0,\; \exists N\in\mathbb N,\; \forall n\ge N,\; \forall x\in A,\qquad |f_n(x)-f(x)|\le \varepsilon.ou encore
∀ε>0,  ∃N∈N,  ∀n≥N,∥fn−f∥∞,A≤ε.\forall \varepsilon>0,\; \exists N\in\mathbb N,\; \forall n\ge N,\qquad \|f_n-f\|_{\infty,A}\le \varepsilon.

Exemple

fn:[0,1]→R,fn(x)=xn.f_n : [0,1]\to\mathbb R, \qquad f_n(x)=\frac{x}{n}.Pour tout x∈[0,1]x\in[0,1], on a
fn(x)→n→+∞0.f_n(x)\xrightarrow[n\to+\infty]{}0.La fonction limite est donc la fonction nulle :
∥fn−f∥∞,[0,1]=sup⁡x∈[0,1]∣xn∣.\|f_n-f\|_{\infty,[0,1]} = \sup_{x\in[0,1]} \left|\frac{x}{n}\right|.Comme 0≤x≤10\le x\le 1, on obtient
sup⁡x∈[0,1]∣xn∣=1n.\sup_{x\in[0,1]} \left|\frac{x}{n}\right| = \frac1n.Ainsi,
∥fn−f∥∞,[0,1]=1n→n→+∞0.\|f_n-f\|_{\infty,[0,1]} = \frac1n \xrightarrow[n\to+\infty]{} 0.Par conséquent, la suite (fn)(f_n) converge uniformément vers ff sur [0,1][0,1].

Remarques

Practice this concept with exercises

  • Considérons la suite de fonctions
    fn(x)=xn,x∈[0,1].f_n(x)=x^n, \qquad x\in[0,1].
