Let FF and FF' be fields. A function φ:FF\varphi:F \rightarrow F' is a field homomorphism if for all a,bFa,b\in F:

  1. φ(a+b)=φ(a)+φ(b)\varphi(a+b)=\varphi(a)+\varphi(b)
  2. φ(ab)=φ(a)φ(b)\varphi(a\cdot b)=\varphi(a)\cdot\varphi(b)
  3. φ(1)=1\varphi(1)=1
