On considère le cercle unité S1={(x,y)∈R2∣x2+y2=1}S^{1}=\{(x,y)\in \R^{2}\mid x^{2}+y^{2}=1\}, et deux cartes locales :
U={(x,y)∈S1∣y>0}avecφ:U→]−1,1[   deˊfini comme φ(x,y)=xU=\{(x,y)\in S^{{1}}\mid y>0\}\quad \text{avec} \quad \varphi:U \to ]-1,1[\:\:\:\text{défini comme } \varphi(x,y)=xV={(x,y)∈S1∣x>0}avecψ:V→]−1,1[   deˊfini comme ψ(x,y)=yV=\{(x,y)\in S^{{1}}\mid x>0\}\quad \text{avec} \quad \psi:V \to ]-1,1[\:\:\:\text{défini comme } \psi(x,y)=y

  1. Déterminer l’intersection de UU et VV.
  2. Déterminer φ(U∩V)\varphi(U\cap V) et ψ(U∩V)\psi(U\cap V).
  3. Déterminer la fonction de transition ψ∘φ−1\psi\circ \varphi^{-1} entre ces deux cartes locales.

  1. U∩V={(x,y)∈S1∣x>0  et  y>0}U\cap V=\{(x,y)\in S^{1}\mid x>0 \: \text{ et }\: y>0\} : c’est le quart de cercle supérieur droit.

  2. φ(U∩V)=]0,1[\varphi(U\cap V)=]0,1[ et ψ(U∩V)=]0,1[\psi(U\cap V)=]0,1[.

  3. L’inverse de φ\varphi est donnée par φ−1(x)=(x,1−x2)\varphi^{-1}(x)=\left(x,\sqrt{1-x^{2}}\right). D’où en composant, la fonction de transition est la fonction
    ψ∘φ−1 ⁣:]0,1[→]0,1[\psi\circ\varphi^{-1}\colon]0,1[\to ]0,1[définie comme ψ∘φ−1(x)=ψ(x,1−x2)=1−x2\psi\circ \varphi^{-1}(x)=\psi\left(x,\sqrt{1-x^{2}}\right)=\sqrt{1-x^{2}}.
